The RT5/32 is a Transil diode surge suppressor designed to minimize peak overvoltage values and effectively limit or eliminate high pre-damping voltage frequencies. It is specifically intended for use with DC-operated conventional contactors in control circuits rated between 12V and 32V DC. Inductive circuits generate overvoltages, particularly when a contactor coil is de-energized. During contactor closing, electromagnetic energy is stored in the coil and released upon opening, causing voltage surges that can reach several kilovolts. These surges can lead to interference with electronic devices, breakdown of insulation materials, and potential damage to sensitive components. The RT5/32 offers several advantages, including a compact design that allows it to clip onto the top or side of the contactor or relay base without altering overall dimensions, effective energy absorption, an unpolarized system for easy installation, and reliable, rapid response that attenuates steep voltage fronts and high-frequency disturbances with no operational delays.
